LOWER LAKE — The Lower Lake Historical School Preservation Committee will host actor, singer and dancer Gale McNeeley for a one-night performance, 7 p.m. July 28 in Weaver Auditorium at the Lower Lake Historic Schoolhouse Museum. McNeeley will present his hit show, “Over the Rainbow ? a tribute to Yip Harburg.”

According to McNeeley, “Yip Harburg is the most famous lyricist whose name you may not know.” Besides writing all the lyrics for “The Wizard of Oz,” Harburg wrote the lyrics for the Broadway show and movie, “Finian”s Rainbow,” as well as many famous songs of the 1930s and ”40s such as “April In Paris,” “It”s Only a Paper Moon,” “Buddy Can You Spare a Dime” and “Lydia the Tattooed Lady.”

McNeeley will be accompanied on piano by his musical partner Betty Faas. The show is appropriate for all ages.

McNeeley has appeared on Broadway in “Two Gentlemen of Verona” with Jerry Stiller and Raul Julia and “Cyrano” with Christopher Plummer. McNeeley last appeared at the Weaver Auditorium in his one-man show “Archy & Mehitabel.”

All tickets cost $8. To reserve tickets, call the museum at 995-3565. Seating is limited so early reservations are advised.

The Lower Lake Historic Schoolhouse Museum is located at 16435 Main St. in Lower Lake and is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
