CLEARLAKE — Firefighters worked rapidly to contain a wildland fire amid wind-speeds averaging 7 mph and gusts reaching up to 15 mph Thursday in the Clearlake Park area. About five-to-six acres were consumed in the blaze.
Upon arrival of Lake County Fire Protection District (LCFPD) Battalion Chief George Murch at about 5 p.m., the fire was reported at about three acres in the area of San Joaquin Drive traveling up the ridge toward Carter Lane. At about 6:25 p.m. the fire was considered contained with an approximate five to six acres burned.
Murch said the fire was situated within LCFPD jurisdiction as well as in the State Response Area (SRA) protected by CAL FIRE. He said a unified command was established between the two agencies. LCFPD responded with several fire and rescue units.
CAL FIRE responded with a wildland attack including an air tanker, spotter and helicopter plus ground crews. Northshore Fire Protection District also responded with Water Tender 7511 out of the Clearlake Oaks Station. Konocti Conservation Camp hand crews responded as well.
Murch said that wind conditions did present a concern during the fire; however, suppression tactics prevented the blaze from spreading to homes that were slightly threatened during the incident.
Murch said mop-up efforts were expected to take four to five hours.
