LAKEPORT — A child struck by a black Saturn SUV succumbed to his injuries in the early afternoon on Wednesday.
The incident occurred on Soda Bay Road near Osprey Court.
The driver of the Saturn was traveling on Soda Bay Road when, according to witnesses, the child “ran into the roadway toward his mother who was on the other side of the road.”
The toddler allegedly tripped and fell onto the asphalt.
The call was reported as a 3-year-old hit by a vehicle.
The toddler, who sustained major head trauma, was transported to the Fastop store at the intersection of Soda Bay Road and Highway 175 by family members and was met by emergency units from California Highway Patrol (CHP), Lakeport Police Department (LPD) and Lakeport Fire Protection District (LFPD). LFPD transported the child by ambulance to Sutter Lakeside Hospital.
A REACH helicopter was initially called to transport the child.
