CLEARLAKE — A Clearlake woman was pronounced dead at the scene where her vehicle went over an embankment in the Clearlake Park area Tuesday.
The cause of the woman”s death is pending a full autopsy.
Clearlake Police responded to the area of San Joaquin and Carter Lane at approximately 4:05 p.m. on Tuesday following reports of a possible intoxicated driver.
Reporting parties advised the driver, who was later identified as Pamela Bernal, 65, of Clearlake, struck a stop sign at the intersection of Arrowhead Road and San Joaquin Drive; parties said they lost sight of the driver near Carter Lane. According to Sgt. M. Snyder, because of the steep, hillside terrain, officers conducted a search of the area to discover a silver Ford, which apparently left the roadway.
The vehicle traveled approximately 110 feet down a steep hillside. Snyder said it appeared the Ford rolled several times causing major damage to the vehicle.
Snyder said officers descended on the vehicle and located Bernal inside. He said officers administered lifesaving techniques (CPR) until the arrival of Lake County Fire Protection District paramedics. During the incident, a medic advised via radio communications that Bernal may have suffered a heart attack.
