CLEARLAKE — The Clearlake City Council entertained a short agenda Thursday that began with a moment of silence for the wife of Planning Commissioner Albert Bernal, who died on Tuesday.
Half of the two-item business agenda was pulled for discussion at a later date.
After presenting the Lakeshore Lions Club with a certificate of appreciation recognizing the club”s efforts to ensure an Independence Day fireworks display in the city this year, the council addressed its consent agenda without further discussion and moved on to an item pertaining to redevelopment.
The council voted to send a letter to Assemblyman Wes Chesbro and Senator Noreen Evans to express its “anger and disappointment” in the representatives” recent votes to eliminate redevelopment in the state and to express the city”s support of a lawsuit file recently in the California Supreme Court to overturn the two redevelopment elimination bills, Assembly Bill 1X26 and 27, which were passed as a part of the state budget in June.
The council reviewed a draft letter composed by Redwood Empire Cities, which is the region of that represents the city within the League of California Cities. The draft letter does not include information about Clearlake particularly; the council decided it would make additions to the draft letter prior to sending it to Chesbro and Evans to include local concerns regarding the elimination of the redevelopment program.
The council pulled an item pertaining to the franchise agreement with Clearlake Waste Solutions, Inc. at the request of Interim City Administrator Bob Galusha. He said the item will come back before the council on Aug. 11.
The council was in closed session prior to the regular meeting on Thursday for an item related to the appointment of a permanent city administrator. Overton said there was no reportable action taken in the closed session. The council did not address an addendum to the evening”s agenda described as consideration of appointment of the city administrator and approving an at-will employment agreement.
