SPRING VALLEY — CAL FIRE exhausted about 22 hours total on a wildland fire that started Friday in the Spring Valley area east of Clearlake Oaks. The fire consumed approximately 30 acres off of Spring Valley Road.

According to CAL FIRE spokeswoman Jennifer Neal, the fire ignited at about 4:15 p.m. Friday. She said “forward progress on the fire was considered ceased at 6:31 p.m.”

Response personnel had difficulty gaining access to the fire, according to radio communication during the incident. Ultimately access was made by way of Wolf Creek Road. Neal said that mop-up crews remained on scene throughout the night and into Saturday. The final crew was released from the scene at about 2 p.m. Saturday. Crews returned on Sunday to gather hoses and monitor the area.

CAL FIRE responded with wildland air attacking including three air tankers, two helicopters, five dozers and approximately 100 members of personnel. She said a total of 12 hand crews were used throughout the incident, including seven that mopped-up the first day and five that handled the mop-up on Saturday.

Northshore Fire Protection District also provided resources for suppression of the fire, which was Neal described as being situated in a steep terrain, woodland area. The cause of the fire is under investigation by CAL FIRE.
