BUCKINGHAM — Corey Huber of Clear Lake Riviera captured the overall boys” title by shooting an 8-over-par 76 on Wednesday during the 18th annual Lake County Junior Golf Championship at Adams Springs Golf Course on Cobb Mountain.

Huber won by two strokes over Kelseyville High School classmate and teammate Wyatt Ferrell. A two-time All-Coastal Mountain Conference golfer, Huber recovered from a sloppy quadruple-bogey eight on the opening hole by playing par golf over the final eight holes on the front nine. Tied headed to the back nine, Huber built a big lead before ultimately taking home the Lake County Junior title.

Huber carded a front-nine 38 to catch Daniel Eagle, an All-CMC golfer from Middletown High School who won the Buckingham Summer Junior a day earlier at Buckingham Golf and Country Club.

Huber and Eagle had a three-stroke lead over Ferrell at the midway point of the tournament. Eagle recorded back-to-back triple bogeys on the 11th and 12th holes, which allowed Huber to jump into the lead by a five-shot margin through 12 holes. With just four holes remaining, Huber led Ferrell by four strokes and Eagle by five shots. Ferrell birdied the 15th hole while Huber bogeyed the same hole, cutting Huber”s lead to two shots.

However, Huber and Ferrell played par golf the final three holes. It was Huber”s first overall junior golf championship. He recorded just one birdie to go with 13 pars.

Ferrell recorded nine-hole totals of 41-37 to finish in second place. Eagle shot a back-nine 43 to finish at 81, good for third place. Ferrell had one birdie and Eagle didn”t record any birdies on Adam Springs” surprisingly fast and subtle greens.

Chad Elliston of Lakeport finished in fourth place with 93.

14-15 division

Aaron Waldrop of Cobb Mountain won the 14-15 boys” bracket after carding an 87. Waldrop finished 12 strokes ahead of Brandon Huber, Corey”s younger brother. Brandon Huber finished second with a 99. Bryan Holt of Lakeport placed third with 106.

12-13 division

Logan Barrick of Lakeport won the 12-13 boys” division with a 114. Jonah Lewis of Lakeport finished second with an 18-hole total of 117. Lorenzo Johnson of Kelseyville came in third with 125.

10-11 division

In the 10-11 boys” division, Matt Wotherspoon of Buckingham set a tournament record for his age bracket with a score of 45 for nine holes. He birdied the par-5 fifth hole as well as the par-4 ninth hole.

Mike Camacho of Lakeport was second with 59, Sean Mullins of San Francisco finished third with 65, and Jacob Lopez of Finley recorded a 68 to come in fourth.

Girls” division

Sophie Sells of Kelseyville won the overall girls” championship with an 18-hole round of 108.

A total of 19 golfers participated in this year”s tournament. Other sponsors were Eddie and Linda Mullins, Jack and Sharon Lucich, and John and Julie Berry.
