I”m glad Mr. Ridgel and Mr. Knutsen take glory in their having been “drunken sailors.” That sort of attitude seems to be in-line with their political thinking.
I have different memories of drunken sailors. As a pharmacist”s mate, I had to patch up too many drunken sailors to have positive feelings.
Too drunk to be physically or verbally able, argumentative, aggressive, mean and unthinking, they caused far more trouble than they were worth.
This is behavior that would fit right in with the “right” side of the federal house.
Somehow suturing cuts from fights and smashed bottles did not give much pleasure nor did dealing with the results from their not remembering to use the “pro kits” they were issued when going on liberty.
Good thing drunken sailors stop spending when they run out of money. They would be even worse if given credit.
To draw a parallel with the country”s problems is ludicrous. Probably even drunken sailors would support defense spending instead of worthwhile spending (such as trying to correct the problems caused by drunks).
I have to agree with Knutsen; Lahmann writes well. Now if she could only match her writing prowess with an accurate knowledge of recent history and economics.
