This is a letter responding to the two I”ve read recently in the Record-Bee regarding subsidizing funds for pet adoption. I completely agree. I”ve had an idea for a long time about this very issue.
In fact, more than a year ago I wrote a letter and presented it to the head of the Chamber of Commerce in Clearlake. I asked if business owners and restaurants put out jars for people to put change in for the animal control.
Fort Bragg and Mendocino do this. To paraphrase, I was told that people in Lake County don”t have the money to do this. There are a lot of people out there who would be glad to drop change into those jars.
I think this would start something positive for our furry friends and to help with the adoption fees. It may not be a lot of money at first, but every little bit helps.
We go to Fort Bragg quite often and being animal lovers, we are constantly dropping change into those jars. There are a lot of people who would love to help in any way they can. Wouldn”t this be a start?
I also thought of the idea that”s been used before about banks taking up collections for our furry friends.
Why couldn”t there be an ongoing bank account for that purpose? And why can”t we all get together and put our heads together on this subject?
There are just too many animals out there that need homes. Surely, most people can afford a few bucks, here and there. There are so many caring and loving people out there.
If the $30 adoption fee was collected for every senior citizen who wished to have a pet, that would mean one more happy senior and one more pet getting a home.
Isn”t this all worth it? Dogs and cats all need someone to love. Adopting a pet that needs a home is such a huge reward.
My husband and I are so blessed with our two dogs and now, two cats, that give us such unconditional love. They needed a home and came into ours. Let”s help people fill this void in their lives.
