CLEARLAKE — Clearlake City Council approved a Solid Waste Franchise Agreement with Clearlake Waste Solutions, Inc. (CWS) during its regular meeting Thursday and addressed two other items of business.
Notable changes to the franchise agreement include an increase in the fee paid by the hauler to the city from its current five percent to 10 percent. The additional fee will provide funding to cover the city staff time involved with coordinating with CalRecycle and CWS on the city”s local implementation plan. In addition, the fee will cover costs associated with city street repair attributed to waste hauling trucks. Another change will provide for monthly street sweeping of arterial and collector streets and quarterly sweeping of Redbud Park and the Clearlake Senior/Community Center.
CWS is to provide one annual residential electronic waste drop-off event within the city at no cost to residential customers. Also, CWS will collect and dispose of up to 200 tires per year from city roads at not cost to the city and it will purchase from the city items of scrap metal including appliances. In other actions, the council approved adoption of an ordinance relating to remote caller Bingo games. Sitting as the Redevelopment Agency board of directors the board adopted a document titled: “Enforceable Obligations Payment Schedule.”
Action included direction to staff to pursue actions needed either under Assembly Bill 1×26 or AB 1×27, the two bills signed into lay that will affect the future of the redevelopment agencies in the state.
