WILLITS (MNG) ? Firefighters were battling approximately 10-acres on fire with about 30 percent contained in the foothills east of Willits, according to a report from CAL FIRE as of 5 p.m. on Monday.

The vegetation fire was first reported just before 3 p.m. on Eastside Road near Canyon Road. About 100 personnel from seven fire agencies are working to contain the blaze, which ignited in the grass on private ranch land in the area and was burning uphill toward timber land, according to CAL FIRE.

Crews are using hoses and air drops of fire retardant from air tankers and helicopters to douse the flames, along with large hand tools and dozers to scrape the land around the fire clear of vegetation to remove the fuel for the fire.

CAL FIRE, Willits-Little Lake Fire, Brooktrails Fire, Hopland Fire, Ukiah Valley Fire District, Laytonville fire and Redwood Valley responded to the blaze. At 5 p.m., CAL FIRE expected crews to stay with the blaze past midnight. More information on the fire will be reported as it becomes available.
