MCKINLEYVILLE — Kristy Hayes scored with an assist from freshman Hannah Norwood as the Clear Lake Cardinals tied McKinleyville 1-1 in a non-league varsity girls” soccer game on Saturday in McKinleyville.
Hayes” goal put the Cardinals (0-0-1) up 1-0 with 10 minutes left in the game. McKinleyville scored with four minutes remaining to tie it.
Clear Lake also scrimmaged South Fork and St. Bernard during the weekend.
“We were the better team in both (scrimmages),” Clear Lake coach Paul Larrea said. “Over the course of two scrimmages and a game we gave up six shots.”
McKinleyville had only three shots on goal to Clear Lake”s 22.
The Cardinals play McKinleyville again Friday at 4:45 p.m. in the Abalone Cup at Fort Bragg.
