SAN LEANDRO — Marcus Radovan, a 16-year-old incoming senior at Lower Lake High School, didn”t need long to register his first victory in his boxing debut Saturday in San Leandro.
Competing in USA Boxing Northern California”s Battle at the Kennel, Radovan of the Golden Ring Boxing Club of Lower Lake won by second-round TKO over Ricardo Avila, who like Radovan was also making his boxing debut.
“Right jab, right hook to body, left straight to the head and that was it,” Radovan said of the sequence of punches he landed to produce the fourth standing-eight count of the match, at which point the fight was halted by the referee.
“He landed a lot of straight lefts and upper cuts to the body,” said Dave Cavagna, one of Radovan”s coaches. “He hurt him with body shots and he set them up with left jabs.”
Radovan”s attack produced two standing-eight counts for Avila in the first round and two more in the second, at which point the bout was stopped.
Radovan spent three months training for his first fight under the direction of coaches Cavagna and Phil Cabreros, who is also Radovan”s stepfather. His next match is scheduled for Oct. 23 in San Francisco.
