KELSEYVILLE — The second annual Full Moon Party takes place Sept. 10 from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Buckingham Golf and Country Club clubhouse. The event is a fundraiser for the Joshua Miles Hansen Memorial Scholarship Foundation, which was established in June of 2008 in memory of Josh, a 1999 graduate of Clear Lake High School.
During the past three years the foundation has awarded $9,000 in scholarships to Clear Lake High students who have demonstrated a passion and expertise in the creative arts. The inaugural Full Moon Party last year proved very successful and provided the basis for the awarding of scholarships to members of the graduating class of 2011.
Eligible for the scholarships are seniors at Clear Lake High expressing the same interests as Josh ? drama, writing, music and creative arts. The foundation has focused on the awarding of these scholarships to students who are accomplished artists, an area of education often unrecognized at senior awards before graduation.
This past June, four deserving students each received a $1,000 scholarship toward their pursuit of a college education in the arts. Each of them has a passion for the arts quite different from one another, which shows the diversity among the talented students in the community.
— Matthew Weiss, an accomplished musician and composer, is off to Chico State to perfect his music and expand his creativity.
— Alyssa Hauptman, who is a dancer and graphic artist, has gone off to San Francisco State to explore her artistic endeavors.
— Zenzeswa Manley, a dramatist, musician and cartoonist, will shortly begin her studies at Mendocino College.
— Oliver Leighton is off to the University of California at Los Angeles to student in the School of Arts and Architecture with emphasis on video gaming and programming.
Josh”s family is proud to offer this annual scholarship in his memory. The generosity of each and every participant in the Full Moon Party is greatly appreciated. Inspired by Josh himself, the Full Moon Party continues as an event he was especially devoted to. It is a legacy to Josh”s desire to bring good friends, food and music together to enjoy the gift of a beautiful full moon.
Tickets for this year”s event on Sept. 10 at Buckingham are available at Rose & Company Salon, Catfish Books, and Penny Lane in Lakeport. Tickets are $25 per person.
