FORT BRAGG — Three games, three wins and not a single goal allowed by the Clear Lake High School varsity girls” soccer team Friday and Saturday at the Abalone Cup in Fort Bragg.

Clear Lake (3-0-1) capped a perfect three-game run at the tournament with a 3-0 victory over the Willits Wolverines late Saturday. Earlier in the day the Cardinals blanked McKinleyville 2-0 on a pair of Savannah Dekeyser goals. Clear Lake tied McKinleyville 1-1 in its season opener last week.

In opening-round action Friday, Clear Lake shut out St. Bernard 1-0 on a second-half goal by Chelo Lundquist-Krag, who knocked in a corner kick by teammate Telia Paskaly.

In four games and two scrimmages so far this year, the Cardinals have allowed just one goal.

“Defensively we”re playing really well,” Clear Lake coach Paul Larrea said. “And we”re spreading around the scoring a little bit.”

Against Willits, Clear Lake received goals from Paskaly, Kristy Hayes and Kristen McKinney (her first varsity goal). Paskaly, Krag and Hayes had assists.

In the win over McKinleyville, Paskaly and Krag assisted on Dekeyser”s goals.

Among the tournament standouts for the Cardinal were keeper Darian Ottolini, midfielder Kelcie Reynolds and forward McKinney, who was pressed into service because of injuries to other players.

“She played a lot in that last game and did a good job,” Larrea said.

Ottolini made several “nice saves,” according to Larrea, while Reynolds starred in the midfield.

The Cardinals are off until Sept. 6 when they host Upper Lake at 4:30 p.m.
