KELSEYVILLE — District 5 Supervisor Rob Brown and his wife Kim held an appreciation event at their home on the Fourth of July to recognize Lake County correctional officers.

Brown held a barbecue as a “somewhat belated Correctional Officer”s Appreciation event,” Brown stated in an email. National Correctional Officers and Employees Week is recognized during the first week in May.

Brown stated he decided to hold the event after no acknowledgement was held on the officers” behalf by the Lake County Sheriff”s Office (LCSO). Brown invited all correctional officers, LCSO management staff, County Counsel Anita Grant, County Administrator Kelly Cox and the remaining members of the Lake County Board of Supervisors (BOS).

Approximately 100 correctional officers, correctional aides, dispatchers, nursing staff and others associated with the Lake County Correctional Facility, as well as family members, were served hamburgers and hotdogs by Brown and his wife.

The barbecue began at noon and ended at 4 p.m. Brown said he wanted to hold the event to coincide with the Fourth of July holiday as well as the noon shift change at the correctional facility.

Other BOS members were unable to attend because of prior engagements.

Brown and the BOS had previously held an appreciation event for correctional facility employees in October 2010, when supervisors began cooking pancakes, bacon and scrambled eggs at 5 a.m. to provide breakfast for the 6 a.m. shift change at the facility.
