CLEARLAKE OAKS — Members of the Clearlake Oaks community met recently to continue a discussion regarding a current project to develop a community center in the town. The project is under construction.
According to meeting minutes provided by Kinene Barzin, John Pavoni said the original intention of the building under development was for a community. The aspect of including a youth center was added later. He said the youth program has been moved to the East Lake Grange and is currently operating successfully.
Cost estimates to finish the basic interior aspects of the building are about $100,000, according to the minutes. The essential underground fittings are already installed.
The minutes also state that the County of Lake has the plans for the electrical and plumbing on file.
It was suggested that a list of specific uses be established to aid in deciding how the interior will be arranged. Proposals from general contractor will be needed to determine costs. The group intends seek USDA grant funds to assist in the project as the county has very limited funds to assist in private projects, the minutes state.
Potential uses discussed included receptions, art gallery, educational uses, emergency housing, bake sales and other community-oriented uses.
Lake County Sheriff Frank Rivero was cited as saying the greatest need is to halt the drug problem and dealing. He said unless the illegal activity is ended, people won”t come out to use the facilities. He said law enforcement has been having a much higher profile to prevent incidents and that residents should call the Sheriff”s department at 262-4200 to report any suspicious activity.
