UPPER LAKE — The Northshore Fire Protection District (NFPD) responded to a small fire Thursday afternoon on Elk Mountain Road roughly two miles off of Highway 20.
The fire originated from a car parked in the grass and was most likely caused by car exhaust, according to NFPD Chief Jay Beristianos. When units arrived, the fire had spread to a nearby barn built in the 1800s but firefighters were able to help save the building, Beristianos said. The fire caused minimal property damage and burned less than one acre, he said. NFPD units remained on-scene for approximately two hours.
