UPDATED:

In response to T. McKinstry”s letter published in the Record-Bee on Sept. 2, I am aware that the 1st Amendment states: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech or the press,” etc.

However, the phrase 1st Amendment in the electronic and print media has become commonplace for free speech, freedom of religion and all that it implies. I would urge the writer to read again the one-sentence statement.

I attempted to point out the author of the cartoon has every right to do so.

I did not address the right of the so-called offended to express their opinion. This was the intent of my letter irrespective of interpretation.
