UPDATED:

I thought the days of opening the newspaper and seeing a Lake County District Attorney write a letter that shows poor professional judgment were over.

Apparently not.

I was taken aback by the tone, not to mention the poor grammar, of this DA”s composition.

He may not have accused the rest of us of loving drunken sailors, but the words he tries to smear the Sheriff with are tacky.

I remember when the left-of-ACLU comment was being bandied about by quite a few people.

Anderson neglected to mention the context in which the comment was made and that is, in response to the DA”s hysteria over the possibility that the rights of Hells Angels gang members could, theoretically, not in reality, have been violated.

Deputies were deployed to head off the very real possibility of a violent gang war about to occur on the streets of Lakeport.

The comment needs to be understood within that context.

In my opinion, the DA is more concerned with avoiding an appearance of infringing on the civil rights of invading criminal gang members than with protecting the life and safety of Lake County”s honest citizens. I think that seems left of the ACLU.

The comment effectively draws attention to the DA jumping all over the Sheriff for enacting measures to insure our safety.

I thank Sheriff Rivero for his hard work and dedication, and for being pro-active in busting up criminal activity. The recent independent third-party investigation verified for me that he is accomplishing good things under trying circumstances. He is doing the job we elected him to do.

I think Anderson should focus his attention on prosecuting criminals. That is the job he was elected to do.
