At approximately 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday, I was standing on the corner of Kensington Way and Sherwood Court, wondering why two Lake County Sheriff Office cruisers were parked there.
One cruiser had a deputy in it; the other was empty. Suddenly there were four or five shots. The deputy jumped from his cruiser. “Were those shots?”
I pointed in the direction. Then two other uniformed officers appeared with three or four plain-clothes men. “Were those shots?” The lead officer yelled.
The other officer said, “Yeah, and they came from up there.”
The officers quickly and fearlessly deployed along Country Club Drive as they searched for the shooter.
How the situation turned out, I don”t know because I continued on my way to the Post Office.
That wasn”t any place for gawkers. It was impressive to see how rapidly the deputies sprang into action and the incident did provide firsthand evidence, yet again that we have the best sheriff”s department in California.
It is also important for the public to remember that there have been no unsolved murders in the Sheriff”s jurisdiction in more than a decade. What other law enforcement agency can make that boast?
