CLOVERDALE — Kristy Hayes scored in extra time as the Clear Lake Cardinals, trailing 4-0 midway through the second half, rallied to tie the Cloverdale Eagles 4-4 in a North Central League I varsity girls” soccer match Thursday at Cloverdale.
Goals by Emily Norwood, Nadine Bradley, Telia Paskaly and Hayes capped a dramatic comeback by the Cardinals (1-0-1 league, 5-1-2 overall).
Cloverdale had 11 shots on goal in the first half while opening up a 3-0 lead. The Eagles scored again early in the second half to go up 4-0.
“From about the 15-minute mark of the second half we controlled the tempo of the game,” Clear Lake coach Paul Larrea said. “The whole group rallied together as a team.”
Clear Lake allowed just two shots on goal in the second half as Bradley and Amely Ballesteros anchored the defense.
“Nadine Bradley was outstanding in the second half,” Larrea said.
Clear Lake rallied without two of its key players. Kelcie Reynolds had to leave the game with a concussion and Chelo Lundquist-Krag left with an ankle injury. Larrea said he didn”t know if they would be available to play Saturday when the Cardinals visit Rincon Valley Christian for their fourth game in six days.

Middletown 13, Willits 2
At Middletown, Hannah Diaz had a hat trick times two ? as in six goals ? and the Middletown Mustangs rolled to an easy win over the Willits Wolverines.
“I haven”t seen any player out there who can match her and I hope that holds true through the St. Helenas, Cloverdales and Clear Lakes,” Middletown coach Lee Hoage said.
Kelly Wilkinson added three goals and Brittany Cash had two as Middletown improved to 2-0 in league play and 5-1 overall. Emily Reed and Paloma Colacion also scored.
Middletown has outscored its first two league opponents by a 30-2 margin.
“They are clicking,” Hoage said. “We have a lot of firepower.”
Middletown had a 6-0 lead by halftime.
“We had control of the game from the beginning,” Hoage said.
Wilkinson also had a pair of assists.
St. Helena 6, Kelseyville 1
At St. Helena, Elisa Borg scored in the second half but the Kelseyville Knights lost to the St. Helena Saints in NCL I action.
“I really liked the way my kids played,” Kelseyville coach Cheryl Mostin said. “We were more aggressive, more sure of ourselves.”
Kelseyville fell to 0-2 in the league standings and 0-3 overall.
Shana Cossey made 26 saves in the net for the Knights.
“She had some increbile stops, simply incredible” Mostin said.
Boys” soccer
St. Helena 6, Kelseyville 0
At St. Helena, the St. Helena Saints pulled away in the second half to beat the Kelseyville Knights.
“We got some shots on goal, but we didn”t finish them,” Kelseyville coach Eduardo Ledesma said. “We had a lot of mistakes again on defense.”
St. Helena broke the game open with four second-half goals.
Kelseyville falls to 1-1 in league and 3-3 overall.
Cloverdale 8, Clear Lake 2
At Cloverdale, the Clear Lake Cardinals were game for a half but ended up falling to the Cloverdale Eagles in NCL I boys” action.
Alejandro Cruz and Guadalupe Mendoza scored for Clear Lake, now 0-2 in league and 0-2 overall.
Clear Lake was without its All-League keeper, Raymundo Gregorio.
“They tried their best,” Clear Lake coach Luis Martinez said of his players.
Cloverdale outscored Clear Lake 5-0 in the second half.
