LAKEPORT — A murder suspect appeared in court for the first time Thursday in the case stemming from the shooting death of an Upper Lake woman in Lucerne early Tuesday morning.

Daniel Ray Loyd, 50, of Nice faces six felonies, including murder, robbery and assault with a firearm, for allegedly killing Cindy Yvette Quiett, 48, during an apparent robbery attempt. The shooting occurred around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday in the area of Sherwood Court in Lucerne.

Loyd and an alleged accomplice, 35-year-old Lakeport resident Angel Dusty Spring, were arrested mid-morning Tuesday.

Judge Vincent T. Lechowick arraigned Loyd on his rights in the case Thursday afternoon at the Lake County Courthouse. Loyd”s public defender, Doug Rhoades, asked the judge to defer his client”s entry of plea until the end of September.

Lechowick scheduled Loyd”s next court appearance for Sept. 26 at 8:15 a.m. in Department 3, where Loyd is expected to enter a plea. The judge ordered Loyd to remain in custody at the Lake County Jail without bail.
