ARCATA — Lower Lake High School wide receiver Alphonsos Daniels scored on a 60-yard pass from Richard Tucker early in the third quarter to cut Arcata”s lead to 15-6, but the Trojans ended up on the wrong end of a 42-12 decision to the Tigers in a non-league varsity football game Friday night in Arcata.

Arcata (2-1) led 15-0 at halftime. After Upper Lake closed to 15-6 on Daniels” long TD grab, the Tigers answered with a touchdown of their own.

Lower Lake (0-2) picked up its final points on a Jerald Drummond 15-yard run later in the third quarter.

The Trojans were hurt by four interceptions, according to Lower Lake coach Mike Huffman.

“We shot ourselves in the foot too many times,” he said. “And defensively we couldn”t stop a counter play all night.”

There were a handful of bright spots, according to Huffman.

“Daniels had a standout game at receiver,” he said. “Jared Thompson ran the ball well and Thaddeus Wetmore did a good job on defense at middle linebacker.”

Lower Lake”s junior varsity squad had a much better night, winning 39-0 to improve to 2-0 on the season.

The Trojans won”t catch much of a break next weekend when they hit the road to play Valley Christian (3-0), a 34-13 winner over Clear Lake on Friday night at Chabot College in Hayward.

Game statistics were not available at press time.
