LAKEPORT — A Kelseyville man charged with attempted murder appeared in court Monday morning but did not enter a plea as expected, with the judge allowing the defendant more time to retain an attorney.

Andrew J. Serrano, 38, remains in custody at the Lake County Jail on $1 million bail and is charged with seven felonies, including attempted murder, aggravated mayhem and false imprisonment, and a slew of special allegations.

Authorities allege that on Sept. 10 Serrano beat his estranged wife and shot a man accompanying the woman as she retrieved personal items from a residence on Big Valley Road.

William Turner remains hospitalized for gunshot wounds sustained in the incident. A Facebook page, “Pray for Willy Turner,” has been set up to provide updates of Turner”s condition. He is reportedly conscious, alert and interacting with family members.

Serrano had been scheduled for appearance of counsel and entry of plea Monday morning. Judge Andrew S. Blum continued those proceedings to Oct. 3 at 8:15 a.m. in Department 3.

Serrano has a preliminary hearing set for Oct. 4 in a separate case involving his estranged wife. He faces felony and misdemeanor charges for allegedly following the woman, ramming her vehicle and leaving the scene in early July. Serrano has pleaded not guilty to charges in that case.
