KELSEYVILLE — Kelseyville had its best night on offense in three outings this season but still came up short in a 35-8 non-league varsity football game against the visiting Ferndale Wildcats on Friday night.
Ferndale (3-1) scored in every quarter and led 21-0 at halftime. Kelseyville (0-3) closed to 21-8 in the third quarter on Devin Baker”s 2-yard run and quarterback John-Mark Reagan”s conversion pass to James Thaxton.
Ferndale answered with a touchdown of its own later in the quarter to go up 28-8. The Wildcats added an insurance score in the final period.
“It was pretty close at half,” Kelseyville coach Rob Ishihara said. “They drove 70 yards on their first score, then we lost a fumble and gave them a short field (setting up Ferndale”s second touchcown in the final seconds of the first quarter).”
Kelseyville running back Geno Poloni finished with 117 yards on 19 carries.
“The kids played a lot better, we just gave up too many big third- and fourth-down conversions,” Ishihara said.
