HAYWARD — The Lower Lake Trojans suited up 22 players for their non-league varsity football game Friday night against the Valley Christian Vikings of Dublin. When it was all over, they had only 13 healthy bodies.

“I had two extra players on the sidelines, that”s it,” Lower Lake coach Mike Huffman said of the physical beating his team endured in a 42-0 loss at Chabot College in Hayward.

Lower Lake (0-3) generated only 111 yards of offense and moved the ball inside Valley Christian”s 20-yard line just once, that in the fourth quarter, before losing possession on a fumble.

“That game was an eye opener for some of our kids,” Huffman said.

Valley Christian, one of the top teams in Division IV, improves to 4-0 on the season.

Jerald Drummond rushed for 32 yards and caught an 18-yard pass for Lower Lake. He also had a sack.
