Film series to screen ?Citizen Kane”
LAKEPORT — The Soper-Reese Community Theatre”s Classic Movie Series presents Orson Welles” “Citizen Kane,” 6 p.m. Oct. 11. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Suggested donation is $5.
Orson Welles” first feature film ? which he directed, produced and co-wrote, as well as played the title role ? proved to be his most important and influential work according to movie series publicist Carol Hays. The ground-breaking drama is loosely based on the life of William Randolph Hearst and is frequently cited as the finest American film ever made. Viewers will watch Charles Foster Kane utter the enigmatic “Rosebud” on the big screen.
This special Lake County showing is part of a Classic Movie Series that recently debuted at the theater. The film series runs on the second Tuesday of every month through June. Check the theatre”s website at www.soperreesetheatre.com to see what other classics are coming up.
The Soper-Reese Community Theatre is a restored historic performing arts venue, established in 1949 and seating 300 patrons. Run by an all-volunteer organization, the theater operates under the guidance of the Lake County Arts Council.
Matson to host workshop
LAKEPORT — Writer and instructor Clive Matson presents a two-day workshop titled, “Let the Crazy Child Write,” at the Lake County Arts Council”s Main Street Gallery, located at 325 N. Main St. in Lakeport. The workshop takes place from 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 15 and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 16.
This is a very popular class with a creative and encouraging instructor; Lake County writers are encouraged to share their thoughts and sharpen their writing skills. The class fee is $55 and registration sheets are at the gallery. For more information, call 263-6658.
Cobb Mountain Artists to host events
COBB — Cobb Mountain Artists (CMA) invites Lake County artists to submit their work for its 2011 Holiday in the Pines arts and craft faire, taking place Nov. 12 and 13 at the Rob Roy Golf Course banquet room in Cobb.
The deadline for application is Saturday. Applications must be postmarked by this date.
All work must be original and will be juried by CMA. Various space and table sizes are available on a first come, first served basis.
CMA also invites artists to participate in its Open Studio Tour on Dec. 10 and 11. The deadline for applications is Oct. 24.
