LAKEPORT — The Kelseyville Knights struck for three first-half goals and beat the Clear Lake Cardinals 3-0 in a North Central League I varsity boys” soccer game Thursday in Lakeport.
“We have the chances to score, but we can”t score,” Clear Lake coach Luis Martinez said.
Wences Rojas got the Knights (4-2 league, 6-4 overall) on the board eight minutes into the game. Cristian Macias made it 2-0 with a goal in the 26th minute and Oscar Martinez, the cousin of Clear Lake”s head coach, scored in the 37th minute.
Clear Lake keeper Reymundo Gregorio recorded multiple saves, one coming on a penalty kick attempted by Kelseyville”s Luis Rodriguez.
“It was a really nice save,” Kelseyville coach Eduardo Ledesma said. “They have a really good keeper.”
Jorge Garcia had a pair of assists for Kelseyville and Martinez also had one.
Clear Lake is 0-6 in league and 0-8 overall.
Something will have to give on Tuesday when the Cardinals visit the Mustangs in a battle of winless teams. Action begins at 5 p.m.
