COBB — Two young girls were found safe Thursday after being reported missing for nearly three hours.

According to Capt. James Bauman of the Lake County Sheriff”s Office (LCSO), the two young girls, ages 5 and 6, were reported missing from a fenced-in backyard at approximately 4:54 p.m. LCSO officers were dispatched to the Hoberg area on Cobb Mountain. Sheriff Frank Rivero and LCSO deputies responded to Angelly Way in Cobb to collect additional information and received descriptions of the missing girls.

Dozens of Lake County public safety personnel responded to look for the missing girls in the harsh terrain in order to find them before nightfall. Responders included additional LCSO deputies, CAL FIRE personnel, Lake County Search and Rescue volunteers, LCSO Emergency Services personnel, South Lake County Fire personnel, and officers from the Lakeport Police Department and California Highway Patrol (CHP). Dozens of neighbors and volunteers also joined in the search.

Air support from a CAL FIRE helicopter and fixed-wing aircraft, a CHP helicopter and a Reach Air Ambulance helicopter provided overhead assistance in the search.

At approximately 7:30 p.m., the two girls were located by a neighbor volunteer. They were stranded in a ravine near Trinity Road. A CAL FIRE helicopter airlifted the girls out of the ravine. The girls were assessed by medical personnel before LCSO personnel reunited them with their parents. The girls were frightened but physically unharmed.
