UPPER LAKE — Upper Lake wanted to give player Brandi Robertson a win for her 15th birthday on Friday, but the Calistoga Wildcats had other ideas as they beat the Cougars 6-1 in a North Central League II varsity girls” soccer game in Upper Lake.

Shayla Wyman had an unassisted goal in the first half for Upper Lake as Calistoga built a 4-1 lead.

“Their goalie was pretty darn good,” Upper Lake coach Mike Sheets said. “She stopped a penalty kick in the first half that was pretty incredible. Tanya Carter kicked the heck out of the ball and she stopped it.”

Upper Lake keeper Amber Drake had 11 saves in the net and did “an outstanding job,” according to Sheets, who also praised the play of Carter, Jamie Henry, Shayla Ayala and Bethany Rymel.

Upper Lake returns to action Monday afternoon in Santa Rosa against Rincon Valley Christian. The Cougars return home Wednesday to play Anderson Valley at 5 p.m. The varsity boys” game starts at 3:30 p.m.
