MIDDLETOWN — Getting off to the strong start coach Lee Hoage has been looking for, the Middletown Mustangs knocked off the Fort Bragg Timberwolves 5-1 in a North Central League I varsity girls” soccer match Thursday in Middletown.

The Mustangs (9-1 league, 13-2 overall) had struggled in their previous outing, a come-from-behind 3-2 road win over Willits.

“They put together a nice extended run in the first half,” Hoage said of a first half in which Middletown established a 4-0 lead. “We had some great passing. They were talking and supporting each other … it was really good to see.”

Kylie Agapoff and Hannah Diaz had two goals apiece for Middletown and Emily Reed also scored.

Kaylee Cash, one of only two freshmen on the Middletown roster, started at left forward and made an immediate impact.

“She reeked havoc out there,” Hoage said. “She created a huge dimension for us on offense.”

Cash moved to keeper in the second half and recorded a handful of saves.
