LAKEPORT — The Lakeport City Council held a special meeting Wednesday morning to consider a bid for City Hall roof repairs.

The existing foam roof had performed well since being originally installed in 1994 but leaks have recently developed, including one above the northwest corner of the Council Chambers, according to building official Tom Carlton.

Western Foam offered to re-spray the original roof coat for $7,260 if the city authorized a contract while the company was in town working on another project, Carlton said.

The price to have Western Foam recoat the roof would increase nearly $1,700 after this week and the cost for local vendors to replace the existing roof could exceed $21,000, Carlton said.

The lower-cost quote expired today, requiring council action before next week”s regular meeting.

Western Foam also offered to merely repair roof leaks for around $1,000. A company foreman estimated the existing roof would last another two to five years, Carlton said.

Councilman Roy Parmentier said the cost to fix the roof would only go up in the future. “Do it now; get it over with,” he said.

The three-member council voted unanimously to hire Western Foam to recoat the roof for $7,260. Council members Tom Engstrom and Bob Rumfelt were absent.
