CLEARLAKE — The Clearlake City Council acted on one item of business Thursday and carried over its second item. The council, sitting minus Vice Mayor Joey Luiz, acted on an item related to solid waste collection.

According to Interim City Administrator Bob Galusha the council approved a new franchise agreement with Clearlake Waste Solutions on Aug. 11.

“The agreement required that the City of Clearlake modify our Municipal Code to be in conformance with the new franchise agreement,” he said in his report to the council. “Andrew Morris, of BB&K (the city”s legal firm) has prepared the attached ordinance, which amends section 11-3 and repeals section 11-4 of Chapter 11, Sanitation, of the Municipal Code of the City of Clearlake, relating to solid waste collection.”

The ordinance is available for public review at Clearlake City Hall during regular business hours.

The council carried over an item for appointment of a city official to the League of California Cities Redwood Empire Division Legislative Committee.

Mayor Joyce Overton has been the delegate assigned to the League of California Cities for several years.

While Overton said she would be willing to take the appointment, discussion among the council indicated that it would be beneficial for the newer members of the council to become involved in the league and learn more about its function.

It was suggested that Luiz be appointed to represent the city; however, because Luiz was not present to accept or deny the appointment, the item was carried over to the Oct. 27 meeting.

The legislative committee will serve to educate members about the legislative process and raise the profile and influence of the Redwood Empire Division and its member cities within the league and state legislature.
