LAKEPORT — A think tank took place at the Lakeport Yacht Club last Saturday afternoon featuring expert speakers Greg Guisti from UC Davis Cooperative Extension, Outdoor Writer Terry Knight and Water Resources Director Scott De Leon.

Facilitator of the newly-formed Lake Task Force, Lorene McGuire, introduced the speakers and a question and answer period followed.

Those invited to attend included educators, people concerned with local economy, ranches, agriculture, government, health and welfare, vector control, resort owners, outdoor sports, real estate, attorneys and chamber of commerce representatives.

The task force seeks to supply residents and visitors with current and accurate information about the lake as well as information about marketing Clear Lake/Lake County as a year-round destination, featuring aspects such as bird watching, sailboat regattas, rowing competitions, painting and arts, concerts on the lake; hiking Mount Konocti and bass fishing tournaments.

The task force hopes to have U.C. Berkeley Ph.D. candidates research. Another goal is to help the Lake County Vector Control with changing its mission statement to broaden involvement in the lake”s overall condition.

The task force is looking into the possibility of the Department of Fish and Game pushing back the state-set June 1 date regarding when to start treatment for weeds.
