HEALDSBURG — After a rough start in pool play, the Clear Lake High varsity volleyball team placed second in the silver flight Saturday at the Healdsburg Tourn-ament in Healdsburg.
Clear Lake lost to the host Greyhounds twice. Healdsburg beat the Cardinals 25-20, 23-25, 15-6 in pool play and 25-20, 25-17 in the silver flight championship game.
In other pool matches, St. Patrick/St. Vincent of Vallejo defeated Clear Lake 25-8, 25-17 before moving on to the gold flight. Clear Lake won its final pool match with a 19-25, 25-14, 15-8 victory over McKinleyville.
Clear Lake also won its first match in the silver flight, defeating Arcata 19-25, 25-15, 15-13.
Jessica Asbury led the Cardinals with 48 kills and 14 blocks.
“She had a good tournament,” Clear Lake coach Marci Psalmonds said.
Other standouts were Vanessa Tullos with 31 kills and 13 aces, Morgan Psalmonds with 82 assists and 34 digs, and Coree Alexander with 47 digs.
The Cardinals were without one of their middle hitters, Anna Westin, who was excused to take a test (PSAT).
The Cardinals (7-1 league, 19-8 overall) shoot for their 20th win of the season tonight in Cloverdale.
