CLOVERDALE — Vanessa Tullos reeled off seven straight points at the service line, six of them aces, in the fourth and final game as the Clear Lake Cardinals turned back a strong effort from Cloverdale to beat the Eagles 25-22, 18-25, 25-17, 25-17 in North Central League I varsity volleyball action Tuesday night in Cloverdale.
The Cardinals needed only three games to beat the Eagles on Sept. 22 at Lakeport.
“Cloverdale (4-4) was much improved,” Clear Lake coach Marci Psalmonds said. “They hit the ball a lot.”
Clear Lake (8-1) responded with one of its best efforts all season on defense. Libero Coree Alexander led the way with 24 digs, Haley Garzoli added 13 digs and setter Morgan Psalmonds had 11 digs to go along with her 36 assists.
“That”s the best defensive game we”ve played in a long time,” Psalmonds added.
Clear Lake had a 15-13 lead in game four when Tullos scored seven straight to make it 22-13.
“She served very well,” Psalmond said.
Tullos finished with nine aces and also was among the team”s top hitters with eight kills. Anna Westin also finished with eight kills.
Jessica Asbury anchored the offense with 14 kills. She also led the team with three blocks.

Lower Lake def. Fort Bragg
At Fort Bragg, the Lower Lake Trojans rolled past the Fort Bragg Timberwolves 25-12, 25-19, 25-11 while improving to 7-2 in the NCL I standings.
“I thought everyone played pretty well,” Lower Lake coach Danessa Udy said. “Hopefully this will carry through to our next two matches against St. Helena (Thursday in Lower Lake) and Clear Lake (Tuesday in Lakeport),” Udy added.
Clear Lake and St. Helena share the league lead at 8-1.
Adrina Miller”s 10 kills powered the Trojans, who also received six kills apiece from Shadae White, Danacka Whittington and Kelsie Shoffeitt. Shoffeitt also had two blocks and four aces.
St. Helena def. Kelseyville
At Kelseyville, the Kelseyville Knights had opportunities to win each of the first two games, but the St. Helena Saints prevailed 26-24, 26-24, 25-18 in NCL I action.
“They played the best match we have played all year,” Kelseyville coach Donelle McCallister said. “Everything came together tonight.”
Kelseyville players combined for 32 kills, led by Jennifer Green with 10, Jeannie Johnson with six and Alex Pruett with five.
“Alex worked her butt off,” McCallister said.
Bonnie McCallister had 28 assists from her setter position and Mary McCallister led the team with eight digs.
Upper Lake def. St. Vincent
At Petaluma, after losing the first two games, the Upper Lake Cougars fought back to beat St. Vincent 21-25, 11-25, 25-23, 27-25, 15-12 in NCL II action.
“Great comeback victory,” Upper Lake coach Sandy Coatney said.
Kat Edmonds led the Cougars with 12 kills and three aces. Vanessa Hanson added eight kills and a team-best five blocks.
“Good performance from her,” Coatney said of Hanson.
St. Vincent beat Upper Lake 25-17, 25-16 in junior varsity action.
