LAKE COUNTY — The California Highway Patrol (CHP) arrested two people Friday following an early morning high-speed car chase that went halfway around Clear Lake.

Trenton Asa Reid, 22, of Clearlake Oaks was booked into the Lake County Jail at 3:25 a.m. for a felony charge of evading a peace officer and misdemeanors of resisting officers and giving false information.

Shaun Aldan Jones, 27, of Clearlake Oaks faces a felony accessory charge as well as the same pair of misdemeanors alleged against Reid.

The incident began in Kelseyville just before midnight when a Lake County Sheriff”s Office (LCSO) unit attempted to stop a white Jaguar driven by Reid, according to CHP Officer Kory Reynolds.

The Jaguar fled the area, leading to a law enforcement pursuit, Reynolds said.

The suspect vehicle ran the red light at Highway 29 and Highland Springs Road, drove through several town streets and then got back on Highway 29, making its way down to Lower Lake. The Jaguar reached eastbound Highway 20 just past the “Y” by 12:21 a.m., Reynolds said.

The pursuit occurred at speeds often exceeding triple digits, dropping as low as 80 mph and reaching as high as 120 mph. One CHP unit, two LCSO vehicles and the Clearlake Police Department were involved, Reynolds said.

Officers lost sight of the vehicle but soon located it at the end of Spring Valley Road just before 1 a.m., Reynolds said. CHP officers had the subjects detained by 1:05 a.m.

Reid contacted the Record-Bee on Friday at 8 p.m. requesting that his name not appear in the newspaper.

Reid said he was trying to get to Spring Valley to get home without getting in trouble.

“It was stupidity on my part. I was afraid of being pulled over because I have a suspended license,” Reid said.

Reid said the car belongs to his mother. A call was made to authorities at one point to report the Jaguar missing, but the owner apparently chose not to press charges.

No injuries were reported during the incident, Reynolds said.
