LAKE COUNTY — Congressman Mike Thompson, D-Napa, has three scheduled events on Monday in southern Lake County.
At 9 a.m., Thompson will visit Cobb Mountain Elementary School. He will tour the grounds and see the school”s organic gardens in an effort to begin fulfilling First Lady Michelle Obama”s food program for students. Thompson will also visit some classes and read to students. At noon, Thompson will visit Lower Lake High School where he will announce a grant of more than $444,000 for a wellness center at the school. The grant was made available through the Affordable Care Act. When completed, the wellness center will serve more than 3,000 students across the entire Konocti Unified School District.
The center will provide primary health care, integrated with other health and wellness services. It will be a licensed medical clinic with two private waiting rooms, an office, a nurses” station and laboratory area.
At 3:30 p.m., Thompson will host a reception honoring the “Ladies of the Lake Quilt Guild” for their years of making quilts for the Wounded Warriors Project. The event will be held at the Hidden Valley Lake Community Services District Board Chambers, located at 19400 Hartmann Road. Thompson will be presenting 22 awards to Quilt Guild members.
Thompson is the U.S. Congressman for California”s 1st Congressional District, representing Del Norte, Humboldt, Lake, Mendocino, Sonoma, Napa and Yolo counties. He is a senior member of the House Ways and Means Committee and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
Thompson is also a member of the fiscally conservative Blue Dog Coalition and sits on the bipartisan, bicameral Congressional Wine Caucus.
