LAKEPORT — The Game Shop opened Friday at its new location at 301 N. Main St., two doors down from its home the previous two and a half years.

“We”ve had our eye on this location for a few years, and the opportunity finally came and we jumped on it,” owner Sarah Kraft said.

Sarah and Lance Kraft spent nearly two months redecorating and moving into the space after reaching a rental agreement with the property owner following the closing of The Kitchen Gallery. The business owners felt “relieved” to finally re-open. “We”re very proud to share this with our Lake County community,” Lance said.

The Krafts said they look forward to operating at one of Lakeport”s most prominent downtown retail locations, at the corner of North Main and Third streets across from Museum Park.

“Everybody knows this spot,” Lance said.

The site offers about twice the floor space of their old location, allowing the Krafts to display more of their inventory, which includes some 5,500 video game titles. They advertise The Game Shop as having “California”s largest video game selection,” a claim they confidently support after a recent six-month contest in which they offered $50 to anybody who could find a store that stocks more game titles. Lance said they called or visited more than 20 stores across the state but none had a larger selection. “We left that $50 on the table for a long time,” he said. A new sign for The Game Shop should be installed next week, according to Lance, and the owners will give away a black Nintendo Wii system at their grand re-opening event on Halloween.
