LAKE COUNTY — The Nov. 8 ballot will feature residents” bids for a number of elected positions on local education and special district boards.
Four candidates are vying to fill three vacancies on the Lakeport Unified School District board: incumbent Philip T. Kirby, insurance agent and parent Wally Cox, dietitian and parent Lori Holmes and hairstylist and parent Renee Teverbaugh.
The Upper Lake Union Elementary School District board has three residents seeking two vacancies: incumbent Walt Christensen, math teacher Mel O”Meara and retired teacher Ronald L. Raetz.
Community volunteer Wanda Ann Quitiquit, parent Keith Austin and highway maintenance foreman Richard M. Swaney are competing for two spots on the Upper Lake Union High School District board.
The names of the three candidates for the Kelseyville Unified School District board will not appear on the ballot because there are three positions to be filled. The same situation exists for the lone Lucerne Elementary School District board vacancy.
No names will appear for two trustee positions on the Lake County Board of Education, with incumbents for Trustee Area Nos. 1 and 2 being the only candidates.
Appointed incumbent David Geck and challenger Derek Tippit seek the lone spot for Mendocino-Lake Community College District-Trustee Area No. 7. Single vacancies also exist for Trustee Area Nos. 1, 3 and 4 but each position has only one candidate.
All of the aforementioned vacancies are full terms expiring in December 2015.
As for the 15 special district boards with vacancies, only one has more candidates than open positions.
Eight people are running for three spots in the Hidden Valley Lake Community Services District: incumbents Bob Barton, Frances Bunce and Lyle W. LaFaver and challengers Jim Freeman, Carolyn Graham, Wanda Harris, Jim Lieberman and Michael H. Sand.
Community service districts for which no names will appear on the ballot are Anderson Springs and Butler-Keys.
Candidates will also not be listed for the Kelseyville, Lake County and South Lake County fire protection districts. The same holds true for Buckingham Park, Callayomi County, Cobb Area County, Konocti County and Upper Lake County water districts.
Positions in the Adams Springs, Clearlake Oaks County and Scotts Valley Conservation water districts will remain vacant because of more openings than candidates. No resident filed candidacy for the Villa Blue Estates Water District”s vacancy.
