Randy Ridgel”s letter to the editor regarding the Occupy movement in the Tuesday Record-Bee made me begin to appreciate Herman Cain”s apples and oranges comment during the last Republican debate; putting both apples and oranges into the same basket and pulling out a banana.

The Occupy Wall Street (OWS) movement has been described by most journalists as a rebel without a cause with no clear objective, gripe or solution.

As one well knows, being a rebel without a cause allows people to project their causes on you, which makes for great fun projecting parts of capitalism they don”t like or projecting class warfare ? the 99 percent taking on the 1 percent who have all the wealth. Picking out a message from the OWS is the same as picking out a message from a Ouija board and then Bob”s your uncle!

In reviewing Obama”s conversation with Joe the Plumber on Oct. 16, 2008, we find that Obama explained that his plan would tax people earning more than $250,000 at a Clinton-era 39 percent rate up from today”s 36 percent rate ? an obvious stealing from the rich, at a confiscatory rate in some people”s eyes.

Now enter the Soviet Revolution of 1917 where autocracy (rule by one person, in this case the Czar) was replaced by communism. Here we see the orange of the Soviet Union being compared to the apple of democracy. And while in this fruit fight we find Randy suggesting that the OWS should be marching in lock-step with global warming advocates because the OWS, an orange, can be seen as climate change advocates, an apple.

Today, Nov. 1, the AP news reports that freakish weather disasters, from the sudden October snowstorm in the Northeast U.S. to the record floods of Thailand are striking more often and global warming is likely to spawn more similar weather extremes at a huge cost, especially to the poor and that some locations will become increasingly marginal as places to live.

Ow, not OWS.

Finally, what really got into Randy”s craw is the fact that the volunteer kitchen staff of the OWS did not appreciate feeding their stuff to the homeless and other con artists who posed as real activists.

The OWS, acting as if they were the capitalist fat cats and separating the world into those who do and those who don”t ? the nerve! The OWS are not acting like Randy thinks they ought to.
