No Dickens Fair?
We were all told at Oktoberfest that the City of Lakeport canceled the Dickens Fair. They said it cost the city too much money and they didn”t make enough from the booth rentals. If that were true, why did they wait until the last minute to let everyone know when they must have known this since last year?
The Dickens Fair is the best moneymaking day of the year. It”s the start of the holiday spirit for the county.
All the businesses are struggling to stay alive. How many more businesses have to close before the city pays attention?
What good does it do to put all the money in face-lifts, if the stores are all empty and nobody comes to town?
The Dickens Fair affects everybody in the county, not just the city council. How can you shop local if the city puts everybody out of business? Like cutting back on Oktoberfest. They were going to put it in Library Park. What good would that do the businesses on Main Street?
Who does the city consult with before making these decisions? It affects us all and we should have a voice in the decisions. Everybody I have talked to is as upset as I am. What is the city trying to do to us?
