The headline said in bold lettering “From Pets to Pests, Lake County”s Feral Feline Problem”.

I was furious just reading this headline. Cats are not pests. They are loving pets that bring so much joy to so many people and families. Even the feral ones.

I agree with Director of Animal Care and Control, Bill Davidson, “there are too many of them.” But to label them as pests is saddening. Even more troublesome are the number of cats euthanized every year. I was shocked to learn that Lake County has the highest rate of cats being killed than any other county in the state. What”s ironic, is when I wanted to adopt a cat from the Lakeport Animal Care and Control, they told me it would be over $100 to do so.

If it had been a lower fee, I would have been able to afford it.

So, I left empty handed, knowing that the cat I had chosen would most likely be euthanized.

The installation of the medical modular with a contract veterinarian is a wonderful thing.

I hope it helps cats to find a good home in a more timely and feasible manner. I only wish it could have come sooner so we wouldn”t have had to kill so many lovely animals.
