Renaissance Pageant opens Friday

MIDDLETOWN — The Middletown Renaissance Christmas Pageant and Feast takes place at 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays through Dec. 11 at the Middletown Community United Methodist Church, located at 15155 Armstrong St. in Middletown.

The cost of tickets is $45 apiece, with a limit of 50 seats at each performance. Vegetarian meals are available if requested at the time of ticket purchase. For more information or to make reservations call 295-7174.

Comedy show benefits youth gymnastics

UPPER LAKE — The “Laugh It Up, Lake County!” comedy series fundraiser presents Hollywood and Bay Area comedians, 8 to 10 p.m. Friday at Robinson Rancheria Resort and Casino near Upper Lake.

This month”s show features Joe Klocek, who has appeared at numerous comedy clubs, Comedy Central”s “Live at Gotham” and NBC”s “Last Comic Standing.” Mike Betancourt and Myles Weber are also scheduled to appear.

Doors open at 8 p.m. The show begins at 8:30 p.m. Attendees must be 21 or older.

Cost of admission is $20 in advance and $22 at the door. Advance tickets can be purchased at The Game Shop and at SkyCatch Gymnastics, both in Lakeport. Tickets are also available by calling 413-7052

Proceeds will support the aspiring young gymnasts of Lake County at SkyCatch Gymnastics to be able to attend competitions. Proceeds will help with travel, uniforms, entry fees and scholarship funding.

Holiday open house takes place at Lower Lake museum

LOWER LAKE — The Lower Lake Historical School Preservation Committee presents its annual Christmas tree lighting and holiday open house, 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 9 at 16435 Main St. in Lower Lake.

There will be an old-fashioned sing-a-long around the player piano, refreshments and merriment. The tree lighting ceremony will be at 6 p.m. For more information call 995-3565 or email LLmuseum@LakeCountyCA.gov.

”Nutcracker” tickets on sale

HIDDEN VALLEY LAKE — Parents and Community for Kids (PACK) Community Arts Academy presents its fifth annual performance of “The Nutcracker,” 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Dec. 10 and 3 p.m. Dec. 11 at Coyote Valley Elementary School outside Hidden Valley Lake.

Cost of admission is $12 for adults and $8 for children and seniors. Reserved seating is available in the first three rows at a cost of $17 each. Tickets are available at PACK, Mt. High Coffee and Middletown Florist.

Film series features ”Holiday Inn”

LAKEPORT — The Soper-Reese Community Theatre will show the 1942 Christmas classic, “Holiday Inn,” 6 p.m. Dec. 13 in Lakeport.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. There is a $5 suggested donation.

This famous movie brings Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire to the screen as a popular nightclub song-and-dance team. After his heart is broken by his girlfriend, Crosby retires from the tensions of big city showbiz. He purchases a rustic New England farm and converts it to an inn, which he opens to the public (floor show and all) only on holidays.

This special Lake County showing is part of a new classic movie series that runs on the second Tuesday of every month through June. Check the theater”s website (www.soperreesetheatre.com) or call 263-0577 to see what other classics are coming up.

”Odd Couple (Female Version)” to be cast

LAKE COUNTY — Lake County Theater Company is holding auditions for “The Odd Couple (Female Version)” by Neil Simon.

Instead of Oscar Madison and Felix Unger, this version of Simon”s play features Florence Unger and Olive Madison as its main characters.

The auditions will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Dec. 12 and 16 at the Lake County Arts Council”s Main Street Gallery on Main Street in Lakeport, and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 17 in Weaver Auditorium at the Lower Lake Historic Schoolhouse Museum in Lower Lake. There are parts for six women and two men.

The show will be cast in December with one read-through in December and rehearsals starting in January.

The show will open on Feb. 24 at the Soper-Reese Community Theater in Lakeport. Performances continue through Feb. 26 and during the following weekend, March 2 to 4.
