A recent letter in the San Francisco Chronicle criticized the black Friday debacle that was about to descend upon us and suggested the idea of a “Senior Sunday” whereby no one under the age of 65 would be admitted during that time frame.
This is an idea that could become popular, particularly in our area that attracts and hopes to keeps its retirees and could be extended to include the handicapped as well. Imagine an afternoon of shopping with ample parking near the entrance, moving freely through aisles not blocked by store personnel stacking new merchandise or families of children begging for the latest item and enough cashiers to keep the check-out lines moving reasonably.
The above problems preclude a lot of people from wanting to brave the stores and instead, send someone else with a list of items for purchase and denying a chance to pick up a few extra or new items as they become available.
Perhaps a few of our local businesses could advocate the idea on a trial basis for a few months.
