LAKE COUNTY — Lakeport race car driver Derek Thorn will be participating in the Snowball Derby in Florida this weekend, in part because of assistance provided by his Lake County supporters.
The former Clear Lake High School student posted on the Lakeport Speedway Facebook page on Nov. 21, asking local residents for help raising the last $7,500 he needed for the trip to Pensacola, Fla.
Less than a week later, the goal was reached.
“I”m the luckiest man alive ? Thank You Thank You Thank You!” Thorn wrote on the Lakeport Speedway Facebook wall on Nov. 25.
The Lakeport racer, fresh off of a late-October victory in Las Vegas, is now set to compete in the 44th annual Snowball Derby on Sunday.
