COLUSA — Jessica Asbury led the way with 11 points and Kelcie Reynolds added nine as the Clear Lake Cardinals notched their first win of the season with a 42-15 victory over Pioneer in the consolation semifinal round of the Colusa Tournament on Friday night.
Clear Lake (1-1) held a 20-7 lead at halftime although coach Kory Reynolds said the Cardinals could have played better.
“I told them it wasn”t good enough,” Reynolds said. “We were playing OK, but not full effort. I wanted to see full effort.”
Clear Lake stepped it up in the second half, according to Reynolds, starters and bench players alike.
“I got good effort from everybody I put in,” Reynolds said. “And when we sub, we don”t drop off much. We have a lot of depth.”
Point guards Reynolds and Coree Alexander ran the offense well and kept turnovers to a minimum, according to the Cardinals” coach.
Alexander finished with eight points and Kim Asbury had seven.
Clear Lake plays for the consolation title today at 4:30 p.m.

Upper Lake 61, Potter Valley 24
At Upper Lake, Kelsey Pearl hit a pair of early 3-pointers to set the tone and the Upper Lake Cougars rolled past Potter Valley in the second round of the round-robin Lady Cougar Classic.
The Cougars play Round Valley tonight at 5:30 p.m. for second place.
Unhappy with the way his team was warming up prior to the game, Upper Lake coach Mike Smith pulled his players off the court and met with them in the locker room.
“Intensity was an issue,” Smith said. “I made my point with them.”
The Cougars responded with a fast start and led 16-4 after one quarter.
“We got after it,” Smith said. “We had lots of fastbreak points.”
Pearl paced the Cougars with 19 points and Kat Edmonds had 17. Amber McQueen had 18 rebounds to go along with her eight points.
Boys” basketball
Las Plumas 70, Lower Lake 57
At Durham, Jesse Meldrum”s 28 points weren”t enough to carry Lower Lake to victory against Las Plumas in the round-robin Durham Tournament. The Trojans dropped to 0-2 and will play tournament favorite Durham today at 3:30 p.m. in the final round.
“Our intensity was up,” Lower Lake coach David Graham said. “It we had played like this against Oroville (56-48 loss on Thursday) we would have won that game.”
Lower Lake trailed 30-29 at halftime before taking a two-point lead early in the third quarter, at which point Las Plumas went on a run to push in front to stay.
The Trojans trailed 50-40 by quarter”s end. They were as close as eight points in the final period.
“We just ran out of gas there at the end,” Graham said.
Alfonso Daniels had 14 points for the Trojans, who made six 3-pointers (four by Meldrum).
JV girls
Kelseyville 38, Fort Bragg 33
At Upper Lake, in a game that was close the entire way, the Kelseyville Knights beat Fort Bragg to improve to 2-0 in the round-robin Lake Cougar Classic. Kelseyville can wrap up the championship with a victory today against Potter Valley at 1 p.m.
Ashley Dunia”s 15 points, including four 3-pointers, powered Kelseyville. Amanda Ahart added nine points and Mary McCallister had eight.
