LUCERNE — On Thursday at approximately 1:15 a.m. Lake County Sheriff”s Office (LCSO) Deputies attempted to serve two warrants on Ruben Flores, Jr., 20, of Lucerne.
Flores had a felony warrant for violating his probation on a battery with serious injury conviction and another warrant for spousal battery and false imprisonment.
Because of Flores” history of violence and evading law enforcement, K9 Tjesto and his deputy handler were called in to assist with the warrant service.
According to the LCSO, when the deputies attempted to make contact at his residence on Cornish Court in Lucerne, Flores ran into the neighborhood. The deputies initiated a foot pursuit and after losing sight of the suspect, commenced with a search of the immediate area.
The LCSO stated that for nearly 30 minutes, the K9 team and several patrol units canvassed the area, spotting the suspect at different times and chasing him from yard to yard. Eventually, after chasing Flores over several 6-foot high fences, he was spotted hiding behind a tree. After refusing to comply with commands from the K9 handler, the dog was deployed to hold Flores at bay while deputies moved in for the arrest. Flores continued to resist arrest and the dog engaged him, biting him on the right tricep. Once the dog was disengaged, Flores was taken into custody without further incident.
Flores was transported to Sutter Lakeside Hospital for medical clearance where it was determined that the bite appeared minor and did not require treatment. He was transported to the Lake County Hill Road Correctional Facility where he was booked for both warrants and resisting arrest. He remains in custody with a $50,000 bail.
