CLEARLAKE — During the past two weekends, the Clearlake Police Department (CPD) conducted a driving under the influence (DUI) and traffic enforcement detail. The purpose of the enforcement detail, which will continue through the remainder of the holiday season, is to reduce the number of drunk drivers on city streets and highways and to help reduce the number of traffic collisions in the City of Clearlake.

During the detail, assigned officers are paired with a partner officer with their primary responsibility being the investigation of traffic violations and conducting DUI investigations.

According to Sgt. R. Joseph, since the start of the enforcement detail, and including only the enforcement detail statistics, the following has been made: 42 traffic stops, 34 citations, eight warnings, four DUI investigations, five arrests and one vehicle towed.

“The Clearlake Police Department wants to encourage drivers not to drive while intoxicated. DUI collisions are completely preventable,” Joseph said. “To report a possibly-intoxicated driver, please contact your local law enforcement agency. If they are within the City of Clearlake, please contact the CPD at 994-8251. You may remain anonymous. Working together, we can make a difference.”
